I have used Effexor XR for my bipolar for a few years. It works well to fight irritability and moodiness. However, now that I have been taking it so long, the dosage has been bumped up a few times and after awhile it always seems I'm back where I began. For bipolar I really should be taking more than just an anti-depressant, in order to combat all the effects of the condition; this could be where the problem is. Or perhaps it is just a good product for short term use.
Additionally, though I find the impact of my medication wearing off after I have been taking a specific dosage for an extended period of time, it is incredibly hard to go without taking my pills. If I miss a dose, I know within the hour by the way my mood starts to shift. I once had to go for 3 days without any medication (due to some complications with the WalMart pharmacy, but thats a whole differet story...) and by the third day it was difficult to get out of bed in the morning, I felt slightly nauseas and very depressed.
