Seeing how I LOVE Samoas Girl Scout Cookies I thought I would give the Edy's Slow Churned Girl Scout Samoas Cookie Ice Cream a try. This ice cream is only around once a year, from January through April according to the Edy's website, so I picked up a container during my weekly grocery trip.

According to the container the ice cream contains Girl Scouts Samoas® Cookies blended with SLOW CHURNED vanilla and caramel Ice Cream to give you the rich flavor and creamy texture of premium ice cream - all with 50% less fat and 30% fewer calories. Excited that I could eat ice cream and cookies all at once and have 50% less fat I jumped right in as soon as I got home.

Upon opening the lid I noticed that there was plenty of rich, creamy ice cream but appeared to be very few cookie pieces. I thought maybe the cookies would be deeper in the ice cream and not right at the top so I scooped out a bowl and started eatting. Even though the ice cream was very good; smooth, sweet and creamy, I was disappointed to find that the lack of Samoas cookies continued throughout the whole gallon. I purchased this flavor hoping to find an abundance of cookie pieces and there was a noticable shortage.

Even though the ice cream was good I believe you would be better off purchasing a gallon of vanilla ice cream and a box of Samoas cookies from your local Girl Scout and making your own. This way you could get the full flavor of the cookie and not just the ice cream.

I know it has cookie dough and caramel and it's awesome :-D Look for the green box in the Breyers section. I didn't see it on the website.

Patty - I could eat a jar of cookie dough plain, I'm with you on this one. I have a feeling you'd like the Spongebob Ice cream... it's a great mix! It's in the Breyer's section.

I'm with you, make it yourself :-D Althought it wouldn't be quite so healthy... oh well, we all deserve a little something good once a year when girl scout time comes :)

I guess you have to give up some flavor to save calories...hehe.

I hate when ice cream only has tid bits of stuff in it. I like butter pecan and, if there isn't big ole pecans in it, I don't touch it. Same with cookie dough. I want massive chunks of dough not just a hint of them.
