I recently wrote an article about cash incentive programs in schools: some schools are paying students to receive high scores on standardized tests, get good grades, etc. It is a controversial program because some people view this as bribing children to learn, others think that it serves as a motivational tool. I would love to get some feedback on this. Thanks!

I think the idea of the 'gem jars' mentioned in the article is a better way to motivate students. I don't like the idea of paying students to learn for a variety of reasons, with a big one being it puts the teacher in an awkward position knowing the grades they give-out have a financial impact.

Seems to me that they are trying to just throw money at the problem instead of actually fixing the fact that teaching strategies and techniques are uninteresting and outdated.  Beef up what you're teaching, make it interesting, and actually teach what kids want to learn and you shouldn't have to pay them to be there and to learn.  Seems a whole other lesson is being learned... pay me and I'll perform for you.  LIke it's stated in the article... We should be instilling a want/desire to learn, not get paid to pass a test.
