Personally I hate receiving cut flowers. Give me something with roots that I can enjoy at least until cold weather comes. After a funeral, nothing is more sad than having to go through old photographs and throwing away spent flowers. I remember a neighbor loading up a huge wagon filled with dying beauties. His wife had just died, and his house was filled with these fading blooms from well-meaning friends. I don't know which was more sad, the old blossoms or his expression as he carted them off into the woods.

My step-mom died Aug. 07 at the age of 73. I live 16hrs hard driving from my dad, so dropping in to make sure he was eating was not an option. I didn't want him to face one more flower greeter at the door, so I looked around for something different. I found this site, Edible Arrangements, on the Internet, and they delivered in his area - what luck! I don't know if the family got my order and thought I was crazy or what, but I could imagine Dad sitting at the table late at night and nibbling on the arrangement as he mulled over what to do next and how he was going to get through this episode of his life. Even if no one touched it, food is still easier to throw out than flowers.

The price? I was a little take aback, but I always am about anything I buy. When I really looked at it, the order was hand delivered with a confirmation sent to me that my FATHER accepted the order himself. Compared to buying flowers, this arrangement was comparable or even less expensive. I did some research and took 3 hours to make the decision, but I really believe, whether he actually ate it or not, that sending the edible arrangement was more cost effective for me, and gave him something different from all the flowers, cards and calls. For that instance, I think Edible Arrangements filled my needs very well.

PS: Characters were eating an "Edible Arrangements" display on One Life to Live in a late June 08 episode. The arrangement was shown for a full 5min of the show.
