MY SOUTHWEST FACING APARTMENT HEATS UP LIKE AN OVEN IN THE AFTERNOONS.   I AM GLAD I GOT THE 12000 BTU UNIT BECAUSE IT REALLY DOES THE JOB I NEED.   BEFORE THE EDGESTAR, I HAD TO FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO BE TILL ABOUT 9 OR 10 PM.   I WOULD HAVE PREFERRED A WINDOW UNIT THAT TOOK UP ZERO FLOOR SPACE, BUT THIS IS A SMALL PRICE TO PAY FOR COMFORT AND SANITY.

They suggested a hose I found I didn't need.  There was a system of panels and screws I found cumbersome.  Overall, though, I've been quite pleased with the Edgestar portable Air Conditioner.  It was delivered right to my door and it was easy to unpack and assemble.

Living in an apartment without a good window for an air conditioner, I wondered how we would handle the heat in the middle of the summer. My sister let us borrow this air conditioner, and we soon bought one for our home. This air conditioner cools our entire 1200 square foot apartment literally within ten to fifteen minutes of turning it on. It also has a dehumidifying feature which can come in very handy. The Edgestar Portable Air Conditioner has an easily removable filter which is simple to clean and dry. The settings are easy to use and accurate. I like that it has a temperature feature, and not simply a "low-medium-high" setting. The only detriment to owning an Edgestar Portable Air Conditioner is the floor space it takes up. Of course, when it is ninety degrees and there's no place for a window air conditioner, it is easy to find room! This unit runs efficently, and does not seem overly loud. It adjusts the temperature well and keeps the home feeling cool but neither cold nor dry. It also takes up only about 5 inches of space in a window.

This machine does a great job cooling a bedroom that has always been uncomfortably warm.  The unit does take up some room, both from the unit itself and the room needed for the hose to condense moisture out the window.  It is noisy even on the lowest fan setting so if you're using it in a bedroom and are a person who likes to sleep in silence this may not be for you.  I like a little noise and don't plan on having my house featured in a magazine anytime soon so I love this air conditioner. :)  It was very easy to install, a few simple steps the most time consuming of which is the optional "duct tape" around the window kit which doesn't seem so optional once you have the window kit installed.  Add window kit not aesthetically pleasing to noisy and bulky...I'm not going for magazine but really duct tape?  The window kit sits at the lower portion of the window and if your room is warm you probably should keep the curtains closed anyway.   The unit may work in cooling mode which both cools and dehumidifies, Dehumidify only mode or fan only mode.  The fan can be set to low, medium or high but I've found little need for medium or high as low puts out quite a bit of air and I'm usually the one requesting any regular fan to be set on "tornado".   The unit has both a remote control and a timer two features which I'd say are must haves if using a portable air conditioner in a bedroom. This unit keeps the room cool, was easy to install, and has the extra features of remote control and timer.  I'd recommend this product to a friend or buy it again myself.
