We have an older Eden Pure model, the large 1000, not one of the X-models or Gen models. Our model has the adjustable thermostat on the back, a dial that you can turn up or down to adjust the temperature in the room. The design is black and burled walnut-wood finish. The front just has the on/off switch.
Our house is an older concrete block building with poor insulation, and while the heater did ok for the majority of the house most winters, it didn't do anything at all in our bedroom, so we were left using electric heaters and a lot of blankets. The ice would build up on the windows, and you could see your breath in the air, so on the coldest days of winter, we'd be forced to hibernate in the living room.
We bought the Eden Pure 1000 used from a relative for $175. It really made a difference wherever we put it. We usually use it just in the bedroom and it is basically the only heat that we get in the bedroom. It runs steadily until the room is warmed. Once the room is warm, it only turns on as needed to keep the temp stable. We have gone from using 2 comforters and a sleeping bag with electric room heaters and STILL being uncomfortable, to using just a blanket and comforter and the Eden Pure.
Then we had our baby in Jan. and it happened to be a miserably cold year. We all wound up sleeping in the living room for baby's first few months, and the Eden Pure made a big difference there, as well, as the room is HUGE at 20'X27' and the furnace wasn't keeping up at that time.
Our Eden Pure is several years old, and it's still working well (knock on wood). We clean out the filter regularly, and we did place a piece of cardboard along side the air filter where it snaps in to keep it from vibrating, which started the 2nd year. It runs completely quiet now.
If you stand in front of the heater, you can feel the heat, but the entire system is cool to the touch, which is great now that our baby is walking. She can touch it, pat it, bump into it, and it doesn't tip over, it doesn't burn her, and we don't have to worry about it.
The biggest downside happens to be the cost...is it EXTREMELY pricey, and is debatable whether it saves you as much money as it claims or not. That is up to each person to decide personally, and it probably makes a big difference for those that have more than one.
I'm definitely liking the idea of infrared quartz heating over the standard electric heaters, and so the Eden Pure was a good choice for us, with the cool touch exterior, and its ability to heat, but I'm going to wait and see what others become available, and for what cost.
All I can say is, we burnt out several electric heaters trying to keep our bedroom warm, so for us, this has been a lifesaver. I've read many negative reviews, which would make me hesitant to buy one if I hadn't experienced this one. The cost for another one, however, definitely keeps me from buying another any time soon.
