I have purchased many original art pieces on eBay. I have two all time favorites. One is the absolutely stunning fairy oil painting in my daughter's room. It is not a whimsical painting, but more of a "grown-up" fairy painting. The other is a gorgeous still oil of a vase with flowers. The colors in both paintings are absolutely amazing. The fairies are soft and muted, while the flowers are bold and vibrant.
While from different artists, I purchased both from the same "dealer" and saved on shipping. (Did I mention I also purchased about 6 or 7 other pieces at the same time?!) I gave some pieces away as gifts, but kept these two for myself. Even when Elisabeth outgrows the fairies, I'm sure they will remain in my home.
I have found some other pieces on eBay, but ended up being outbid on them. Sometimes the shipping seems to cover what might be lost on the actual winning bid price.
I'm one of those that when a piece "strikes" me, I want it. Usually, when that happens, if I don't get it (it being whatever struck me -- clothes, art, jewelry), when I end up going back to get it, it's already gone and I hate myself for not picking it up sooner. That's the downside to eBay. The upside is getting great deals on original pieces that I might never have gotten to see otherwise!
