Eat This Not That! —

Eat This, Not That
By
David Zinczenko & Matt Goulding

Eat This, Not That is a very small book that is a guide for those who are too busy to make meals at home and tend to eat out alot.  The book guides you from restaurant to fast food restaurant giving you choices to eat healthier.

For example:
You are at McDonald's.  Instead of ordering a Big Mac, super-size fries and coke - order a salad with low fat dressing.  Eat This, Not That gives you options that have less calories and are better for you.

I whipped through this book quickly.  It's small in size and really not much to read.  As I was looking through it, I kept thinking, "Why eat at these places at all?"  I understand some people work alot, are running around with activities and don't have time to sit home and make a meal and rely on fast food on the fly.  I am one of those parents!

I "get" Eat This, Not That, I really do.  I just think instead of picking the "lesser of two evils", I should be reading a book for super busy parents who want to Eat Healthy, Not Fast Food.

If you do eat out at fast food restaurants alot then this book will definitely help you cut down your calories and make smarter choices when ordering.

Zaxby's is a wonderful restaurant that specializes in only chicken; similar to Chic-Fil-A but with a larger menu and they are open on Sunday's. I "think" Zaxby's is considered fast food because you go in and order at the counter and then wait for your number to be called. However, you can get some great healthy entree' style salads (chicken salad, grilled chicken, or some sort of ranch style--you know with the beans). They also serve wings on a smaller portion scale, sandwiches, etc. You don't get side orders like veggies--just fries and I "think" they may sell cole slaw. I have never eaten anything but the chicken salad and they too has some wonderful sweet tea and everyone loves the crushed ice!!

What is a Zaxby's? I've never heard of it. You're right! It does sound like a kid's book!!

I am the ultimate picky eater and very health conscious--that comes with the territory when you have been hospitalized four times with anorexia. But I must admit: McD's sweet tea is the balm and Zaxby's has an awesome chicken salad salad. Is Zaxby's really fast food?? The title took me by surprise because I thought it was going to be a kid's book!

Can I just send my kids over to your house to eat?

I agree, the options should be cutting out fast food, not getting different things at the fast food restaurant. I honestly have cut back a lot on fast food over the years. Once you start eating healthier at, let's say, Panera, you learn there are fast options that are healthy and not fast food.

You're right - it sounds like a book for super busy parents might even be better! LOL

Yes indeed. Whenever I'm in McDonalds (or Hardees, Checkers, etc), I'm thinkin' "Boy am I in the mood for a salad!

I like your review of this! My mom got it while killing time in the airport. Some of the choices are no brainers, but I did find a few suprising answers. I think that it is for the most casual diner, that has a very limited food knowledge. Too basic for me, but it is entertaining! I don't think I would eat much of anything in the book....
