Do you hear it? You know, that little voice inside your head that's screaming at you not to eat the second bowl of ice cream or to put down your third piece of pizza.
Eat This, Not That is, in essence, the guide you need to eat better in the REAL world. The real world -meaning life outside of careful kitchen measurements and pre-packaged food. It's a world filled with greasy, fatty food.
Didn't you ever wonder why you suddenly put on 20 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas?
This is a book that is made for us, the real people of the world who are trying to get back on the healthy track.
A few things I would like to point out first about Eat This, Not That:
1) It's not a collection of diet recipes - it never was meant to be a collection of food for you to make at home. Not shopping lists. No recipes. Just ways to improve poor eating habits, like eating out.
2) Not a dieting fad - this isn't a way to just lose weight. This is a lifestyle change.
If you're like me, you know exactly what it's like to want something you know is bad for me. Like a donut or hamburger; if you want a donut, nothing is going to please except a donut. Egg whites? Puhleese! Pass the long john and let's move on!
Eat This, Not That really opens new doors. Is fast food good for you? No, and it's never stated that it is. It's making BETTER choices. For example, I love Schlotzsky's. I mean it - I really love their sandwiches. For the longest time I ate their original sandwich. It was good standby. However, upon reading this book, I realized just how terrible it was for me. Now I eat the turkey breast sandwich, substantially healthier than the original.
It's not just fast food though. It's everything - movie theatre food, traditional Thanksgiving meals, etc.
I should mention that the book is not a permanent addition to my purse. I don't whip it out whenever I dine out. Instead, I have taken what I learned and turned it into CHANGE. Do I still eat out? Sure - I'm human! I have a busy life! However, I think it over a bit more. Knowing how bad a cheeseburger is from Burger King does make me stop, turn around and head home for a nice bowl of soup or the like.
For the REAL person who is trying to cope with health or weight issues, this is a great way to get started.
