This is a handy tool. For beginning gardeners, it will help you out with planting seeds correctly. If they go in the ground wrong, you're already off to a bad start, and this lets you get it right for a variety if different seeds. For those who can't, or don't want to, bend over a lot, it turns planting in to "a walk in the park". You can change seed plates and fill the hopper while standing, then you just push it down the row and let it do the dirty work of parting the ground, dropping seeds, and filling back over them.
I personally wasn't able to use the row guide effectively, and ended up pulling a string like I've always done. This planter is also light, so you have to make sure you keep the wheels (which run the whole operation) firmly on the ground to ensure proper depth and spacing.
