It's getting to be planting season here in the frozen tundra which means it's just about time to roll the old EarthBox out of the shed and get it ready for summer.
For the past 5 years I've been trying unsuccessfully to have a small veggie garden in my yard. It had nice soil and was the right size but as the trees in my yard have matured, it just became too shady and mosquito-plagued so I gave up. And then I read about the EarthBox last winter while flipping thru an old gardening magazine and knew I had to have it the minute I saw it. It was named one of the great new products of 2001 (did...
read full review »I grew up weeding a huge garden when I lived in Western North Carolina. I logged about four hours a day weeding (listening to Eye of the Tiger of course!) and I have to say I never thought I would be drawn back to starting a small garden of my own one day. What can I say?! Now 30 years later, I live in the city of Chicago and find myself missing the smells and tastes of a vegetable garden. Although the initial start-up costs are high, if one keeps the boxes for say 10 years, the cost/year is minimal, compared to the yields achieved.
Previously we had a very large garden, and it took many hours to prepare, plant, feed, water, and maintain, but with the Earth-boxes, it is quick and easy. Once planted, all you need to do is water the box daily and you're done!
I will recommend that you follow the enclosed directions carefully. Do not deviate from them. I did, and...
read full review »I purchased two earthboxes about three years ago after my garden didnt do well. I just love fresh tomatoes and cant live with them. I was a little apprehensive about how well these would work at first. The first year I planted tomatoes and cucumbers. They did all right but not the best. The second year was great. I planted all tomatoes and I had lots of huge tomatoes. I love the fact that there is no messing up by overwatering. The only downfall is having to purchase new covers every year. I just plant, fill up with water, and leave it alone. The boxes...
