Earth, Wind & Fire - Faces Review Summary

Earth, Wind, & Fire was THE premiere R&B group for two decades starting in the mid-1970. And sterling albums like the ambitious 2-disc set Faces (1980) is one of the reasons why. Our community of music-loving reviewers has nothing but good things to say about the CD; one reviewer stated: “The word classic is often thrown around but in this case BOY does it fit! This is a great group in it's prime doing what they do best....delivering GREAT music with real appeal to it!” Still another reviewer allowed, “Although the group took a slightly different road with Faces, the album is classic Earth, Wind & Fire and certainly belongs in any respectable collection of the groups work.” Although Faces did not enjoy the commercial success pervious EWF saw, the CD set is nonetheless an enjoyable listen including the title track Faces. Bottom-Line: Although the group took a slightly different road with Faces, the album is classic Earth, Wind & Fire and certainly belongs in any respectable collection of the groups work.

Certain things (musical queues) are Earth Wind & Fire signatures; the fast track to open the album, the instrumental near the end of the album, and the signature slow jam(s) sung by Philip Bailey and usually one by Mr. White.  And let's not forget the world renowned EWF Phoenix Horns, which sing out in perfect harmony every time, even in live appearances!

The word classic is often thrown around but in this case BOY does it fit! This is a great group in it's prime doing what they do best....delivering GREAT music with real appeal to it! From start to finish this claasic work stays true to a time when R&B music was made with passion and heart as opposed to the "ready made" music of today! For anyone discovering this group for the first time...this is the best place to start!
