You may have heard this game has solid gameplay, but a bit of a lackluster story. The story, at first glimpse, just seems like a branch off the Alien franchise, but there are elements that can be appreciated. For starters, I've never heard of extraterrestrial life being coalesced with religion. Without providing any spoilers, I want to also say that the game has a pretty solid and dramatic backstory. Picking up the audio and text logs is a plus if the story itself intrigues you.
Gameplay is similar to the last two Resident Evil titles. Camera is behind the shoulder, weapons and armor are upgradable, laser targeting allows strategic dismembering (which is VERY useful if you want to conserve ammunition), and of course there are physical attacks that include a heavy gunslap and powerful stomp with the foot, also useful for conserving ammo. In some rooms, the gravity level is 0, but thanks to your equipment, you have the ability to jump wall to wall, usually having to do this to overcome obstacles. Very fun.
Sequences with the aliens can be disturbing and frightening when mixed with the dark, abandoned enviroment. Monsters are incredible, ugly, and atrocious. Each part of their body is detachable. Your kills can literally be customizable, but then again, so can your deaths. The monsters on the dark space station are just as anxious to sever your limbs as you are to escape.
To finish this, I just want to say my only qualm with the game was the exploration seemed limited and linear, but not too much. Other than that, my complaints for Dead Space are nye, and after the price drop to only $20 i say buy it!
