I had previously owned an oreck and while it worked ok, nothing can compare to the power of the dyson 14, all floors vaccum. I have five cats in my household, 3 of them long haired, and berber carpet/wood floors combo. When I first got my dyson, I did the vacuum test, running my oreck, then my dyson immedietly afterwards; this was my proof to my hubby that they dyson was worth the cost! The oreck barely picked up a thing compared to the three canisters of pet hair I pulled up from my first use of the dyson. This also comes with several different attachments, which I use occasionaly (the edger, and the pet hair brush get the most use). I'm amazed that I can vacuum three times and week and still pick up loads of pet hair, I never realized how much was actually being ground into my carpet, as the oreck was obviosuly not strong enough to pick all of this up. I also use the telescopic wand quite frequently as well to get behind couches, unders pieces of furniture and to get in the corners of ceilings. Overall, the dyson was well worth the cost!
