My husband purchased a Dyson DC17 for me and I hate it! It has pretty good suction on the carpeting, but emtying the nasty, dusty container always causes me to start coughing. The DC17 is for people with asthma and allergies.....not so much! If you have someone else empty the container then I guess you're not going to be exposed to all the dust.
The cleaning wand is useless for anything but high ceiling cleaning or cleaning hardwood floors. Even at that, it's difficult to use and awkward. I tried to clean my blinds and because the wand is so long and inflexible, I could only clean the upper portion. When I got to the lower area, it was unable to bend to that level. Maybe half clean is okay in the Dyson book, but not in mine.
When I opened the box and set it up, I could see that it wasn't going to be something I could use. I immediately phoned the Dyson people and they said I couldn't send it back without paying for the shipping (about $60) and a $100 restalking fee. Needless to say, I still have it and would sell it in a heart beat if I wouldn't feel guilty about having someone else as unhappy with it and I am.
