I love this machine. My first test with it was at my mother's house. She owned an Orek and swore by it. I used her vacuum first and then said now watch mine. After vacuuming the same area with the Dyson I picked up half a canister full of things the Orek missed. This was a regular large area rug. I finished vacuuming her house and emptied another two full canisters. I bought it because I loved the idea of not loosing suction while vacuuming. That problem plagued older models. I really liked the idea of the hepa-filter (which is very easy to clean). I also own a dog and a cat so this was the right machine to take on the job of cleaning up their fur. The cord is really long so you don't have to plug and unplug as much. The hose is really long too. A function that scared me the first time it happened is really nice as well; if you suck up something in the brush head and it is stuck the machine makes a really awful noise but it is preventing the item from continuing to get sucked in. For instance you have a tassel on a rug and it get sucked in the vacuum wont shred it. You would just hear a weird noise and you can turn off the vacuum or just step on the rug and pull away with the vacuum. After I took the vacuum with me my mom had to buy one of her own.
