We bought the Dyson DC07 Animal after a birthday of mine a few years ago. We run a pet rescue despite the fact that I am severely asthmatic and allergic to cats and dogs.  I used the cash, Target gift cards, and a couple hundred dollars in credit to purchase the $499 vacuum.  I use all kinds of medications and inhalers but I figured that any vacuum that could help to pick up pet fur and dander was worth the exhorbitant price.

This vacuum has a patented technology that maintains suction no matter how full the canister gets.  It's a bagless machine that amazes everyone the first time they run it through their house.  The classic test is to run your older vacuum throughout the house and then see what the Dyson DC07 Animal picks up behind it.  No kidding--you'll dump at least one full canister of dirt even after you run your older vacuum.

This vacuum has a couple of attachments: rug cleaner, low floor tool, and the turbo tool.  The rug cleaner is worthless and the low floor tool gouged giant scratches into the hardwood floors under my bed.  The turbo tool is worth its weight in gold, though.  You can use it to vacuum chairs, couches, mattresses, etc.  I go over the couches and chairs at least once a week and collect almost an entire canister full of pet fur. The Dyson is no joke, especially when you are using the turbo tool on surfaces.

Even without attachments, the Dyson DC07 Animal is fabulous.  It is extremely effective in picking up dirt, dust, pet fur, cat litter, and even shards of 2x4 under my macaw's playstand.  I vacuum the floors, take my meds, and change the pillow cases each day and I've stayed out of the hospital for over a year.  The Dyson never loses it's super-strong suction and helps me to keep a clean and allergy-friendly home.

This vacuum is pricey at $499 but it performs like no machine I've ever seen.  Anyone who suffers from allergies or asthma should look into Dyson's Animal vacuums.

I am considering one of these vacuums. I am asthmatic as well. Currently I have a bagless vacuum and the worst part is emptying the canister. Smelly dust and hair goes everywhere; so much so my husband often has to empty it. What is it like emptying this one?

Very good review. right on target. I have this machine and she is right about the rug cleaner.
