Dyson - Animal DC07 - Upright Bagless Cyclonic Vacuum —

The Dyson is pricey, but I do think it is worth it for pet owners with carpets. It works OK on bare floors too, but like most vacuums - not that great. I do find it to be an eyesore in ugly purple and gray. I always keep it in the closet. I had a dog that was a serious shedder - big ol' dust bunnies of fur. I have two cats and a cat condo. The dust bunnies came out of the carpet and the long white cat fur was easily sucked off the kitty condo with the included tools.

Using the attachments with the hose can be awkward and tricky. the vacuum wants to follow you everywhere. it lurches around behind you. There is also one downside to its power - it sucks up so much stuff you have to empty the bin a lot. Emptying it causes a dust cloud and sometimes you have to stick your hand in there to pull fur clumps out.

If I run mine over an area rug of any size, or in a corner where carpet is not tacked down so hard it sucks the rug in and makes an EXTREMELY loud and very scary noise and you have to put it upright to get it to let go. I should get some nitroglycerin, because I have a minor cardiac event everytime it makes that noise.

I know it may seem like I have more bad than good to say about the Dyson. My "complaints" are all based on extreme power. I guess I am complaining that it does its job too well!

It is worth it. I had a top of the line Hoover. It worked well, but I spent a fortune in bags.

Love your nitroglycerin remark! I'm having pet hair luck with my (increasingly) wreck of a Shark battery powered sweeper. It sucks up stuff my Oreck won't touch. I'm keeping it together with duct tape and hoping for another year. Unlike your vac, the Shark is demure and can be easily stowed away.
