When I bought my laptop a few months ago, I knew I would need a mouse with it. For the amount of computer work I do, the touch pad was not going to be ok with me. We picked up the Dynex Optical Laptop Mouse basically because it was inexpensive and it had a retractable cord to it.
Here Mousey Mousey Mousey
My particular Dynex Mouse with a USB connection we picked up at Best Buy for around $15. Plug it into the port and you're ready to play. The mouse has a sleek design in silver and black with the buttons as part of the entire piece, not separate buttons on the top just adding to the smoothness (it also just happens to nicely match my computer). The odd thing with the buttons though is that they are LOUD. Now I don't mean that they just click like every other mouse... they are a loud click. A scroll wheel included and it rolls all the way around, not just one tap in either direction Smaller in design to fit in laptop bags, the mouse is just right for smaller hands like mine. It did take me a while to get used to the smaller size, but it never made a huge difference in my functioning with it.
Long cord, Short cord
As I stated this mouse has a retractable cord. My husband thought this would be a good idea since then the cord could be rolled up into one small area and easily transported. For me this sounded good as I wouldn't have cord all over the place to get tangled up with other wires that might be around. Just press the button on the cord holder and the cord reals back up. The cord is then dispensed one click at a time when you need it back out. Very nice for those times you need to keep your cord short and out of the way. If I was left handed I wouldn't have to bring the cord out much at all. My major problem though is that the cord doesn't always track in and out the right way, creating a tangled mess inside the holster. I have learned how to make this work properly, but if my son tried to push the button I wind up with a mess.
This is definitely meant to be used as only a laptop/notebook mouse as the cord is short even when fully extended. I only have one location for my USB ports which is the left side of the computer. For a while, I had to have the cord out in front of the computer since it wouldn't stretch all the way around the back and still work properly. I'm not sure how it now works, but it does.
Point-Click, Point-Click
The first thing we noticed after plugging in our little Dynex Mouse is that this baby zips. As an optical mouse, it runs flently over any surface I have tried it on, with minimal skips or issues.
Though I would probably be happy with any mouse that plugs into my laptop, the Dynex does pretty well. I would prefer one that retracts easier, but I do it so little it doesn't make a huge difference for me. For the cost of $15 it's a pretty good value, especially for how well it manuevers around the screen. My Dynex has been in use more than daily for around 2 months now and it shows no signs of petering out on me.
