One of my top three magazines is Dwell.  Their tag-line is "At Home in the Modern World," which does a fairly nice job of summing up the book.  As a clarifying note, one of the most recent Editor's Note explored "At Home in the Modern World" and was very clear to explain that Dwell isn't composed entirely in the 'expected and fashionable modern style.'  It's far more about sustainability - utilizing modern materials that are more eco-friendly or renovating something that is old; leveraging past and current materials better, wiser.  Most importantly, one's shelter is about exploring personal style, being comfortable with who you are and reflecting that in one's nest(s).  I think it's important to note all of this, otherwise, at first glance, their will be confusion regarding what Dwell is about.  Net/net, it's very assessable.

Dwell always starts out with an intriguing litany of letters that range from mostly positive to occasionally negative, which is an honest approach.  The Editor, Same Grawe, always writes a note worth reading, typically weaving in content from that month's issue. The 'In the Modern World' section follows with tidbits on relevant exhibits and books, as well as standout pieces in current and historic design.  'My House' and 'Off the Grid' follow next.  'My House' takes a real house and provides editorial on how the owner was able to achieve a specific look and how you can achieve that look as well.  'Dwell Reports,' one of my favorite sections, takes a category of items (e.g. coffee pots, knives, bags, etc.) and compares various brands.  'Archive' is another favorite, focusing on a historically notable architect/designer.  The bulk of the book is 'Dwellings' which takes a look at a handful of homes.  'Detour' follows 'Dwellings,' with a focus on travel and point-of-interest in the select city.

Dwell may seem like an intimidating book from afar, but it's really quite interesting and has provided me with a lot of inspiration.

Oh no I don't need another design magazine! (Or another magazine period...) But you make this one sound really interesting! I'll keep a note of it, and LOOOOVE your use of "net/net". Guess that's the business geek in me coming out. Great review!
