I came to Dutchess Community College after a near disastrous freshman year at a tiny liberal arts college. I did not feel high school had prepared me for the rigors of academia, but Dutchess allowed me to flex my education muscles and get ready to complete my Bachelor's elsewhere. I had wonderful, supportive teachers who had time for me, whereas I felt the proffesors at the first school were snobby and unavailable. Dutchess has the kinds of classes that can help ease the transition to college, but also very stimulating and advanced courses as well. I didn't feel at all cheated, and loved courses in Poetry, Social Injustice, Writing, and Photography. I also knocked out some prerequisites I would need for my Bachelor's Degree. The administration, career counselors, and faculty were supporitve and very easy to reach. Coming out of high school I recall a lot of naysayers looking down on Dutchess, but I think it offers a terrific opportunity to see what college has to offer and try new things, without going broke.
