Duncan Hines Family Recipe Chocolate Chip Cookies 9 oz. —

I love baking, especially homemade desserts.  However, I don't always have the time to make the things that my family enjoys.  On occasion, I'll reach for a cookie mix, or refrigerated cookie dough that is easily to throw together.  Duncan Hines Family Recipe Cookies (Chocolate Chip) was perfect for such an occasion.

With this small box of cookie mix, I was able to quickly whip together a very small batch of chocolate chip cookies for my kids to enjoy on a Sunday afternoon.  This is how simple it was to put together:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • Empty cookie mix into bowl
  • Break up any lumps
  • Stir in one (1) tablespoon melted butter
  • Add one (1) egg
  • Mix together until moistened
  • Drop teaspoons of dough 3" apart on greased cookie sheet
  • Bake for 9-11 minutes

It took less than five minutes to mix everything together, and have it in the oven.  This particular package of Duncan Hines Family Recipe Cookies (Chocolate Chip) only prepared around 16 cookies.  The cookies were small - you could easily pop a whole one in your mouth at a time.  I thought they tasted okay, nothing like homemade, but both of my boys (ages 7 & 12) thought they were delicious.  They would have sat and eaten the entire batch at one time if I would have let them.

The cookies did plump up nicely, and tasted light and fresh.  They were best when they first came out of the oven.  I would buy this product again simply because of the small portions that it provided.  Other Duncan Hines Family Style varieties that make small amounts of dessert at a time are:

  • Chewy Fudge Brownies (makes 12)
  • Classic Yellow Cupcakes (makes 12)
  • Confetti Cupcakes (makes 12)
  • Devil's Food Cupcakes (makes 12)

This is a good alternative if you live alone, or with just one other person.  Also, for when you want just enough baked goods for one day, without having the temptations of lots of extra laying around the house.

A serving size is 2 prepared cookies.  The nutritional facts for Duncan Hines Family Recipe Cookies (chocolate chip) are:

  • 9 g Fat
  • 180 calories
  • 0 cholesterol
  • 115 mg sodium
  • 24 g carbohydrate
  • 15 g sugar
  • 2 g protein

Now, if you judge by the amount of cookies you receive with this product, it is less expensive to buy a larger box of cookie mix.  I purchased my box from the dollar store, so it was fairly economical.  However, I've seen this product in stores for almost the same price as a regular box.  Still, though, I'd recommend it because it was easy to use and didn't leave me with a ton of cookies in the house for days on end.

This sounds yummy! Although, I can't eat it because of the gluten. I usually make my own chocolate chip cookies.

If I got this, the batter would end up eaten by me and no cookies would be baked. I am such a batter eater!

I, like Gigi, have only used the frozen cookie dough for small batches of cookies. I will have to give this a try.

I like using the frozen Nestle Tollhouse cookies. Just open the package and separate the squares. Bake at 350 for about 14 minutes!
