I needed some kind of diversion from the whole remodel thing, ya know? So I picked up Duma Key and gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised that Mr. King had gotten back on track (IMHO) with this story, after the disappointment of "Lisey's Story". While Duma Key is slow moving at times, the ending is worth the wait.

I won't give that part away.

First of all, there's Edgar Freemantle: Rich owner of a construction company who is nearly crushed to death on a job site by a crane. During recovery, he battles with his own broken memory, and has to learn to live without an arm. He turns to drawing, and...

Stephen King has once again written a masterpiece. Duma Key is a colorful book set in a beautiful beach location. However, looks are decieving and there is more lurking beneath the surface of those blue waters. King hooks you into the story from the beginning and never lets you down. Duma Key is a deceptive book that lulls you like the Sirens of the Sea. Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, Stephen King writes a story that mystifies and inspires. His charecter portraits are right on the mark as usual with the hint of the pain and ecstasy of creation that the author experiences. King gets better at distilling the human condition through the gamut of emotions. His stories remain fresh yet still call to landscapes from his earlier works. A very entertaining read.
