Duffy - Rockferry Review

On a weekly basis Itunes offer's up a free download discovery of the week and some weeks back this young lady was featured with the single Mercy.....a song that would make clear influences like Dusty Springfield DAM proud. By the end of the song with it's tight 60's soul/pop feel you are up and ready for more! If that was not enough Itunes released the second single Rockferry but made a major mislabeling mistake by releasing instead the song Stepping Stone. That slip up sent me into overdrive because in complete contrast to the rousing Mercy, Stepping Stone is one piece of sublime musical beauty. The tone of the music is soft and Duffy's vocal delivery is equal parts sweet and pure. Upon first listen to these two tracks I was HOOKED on Duffy and began drooling for a full on release and today the painful wait is over!

Bottom Line:

In addition to the songs mentioned above their more standouts that are certain get you addicted and the beauty in it all is that each track differ's from the other. Duffy has been compared to another British import we all know for reasons good and bad but the difference between Amy Winehouse and Duffy is that Duffy brings pure honey coated singing to the table minus any drama. Track for track this winning debut release soothes my musical soul and is a refreshing and welcomed addition to the all to predictable mainstream music machine offering a solid and sweet alternative!
