Duck on a Bike Review

My two older kids read a few Duck books by David Shannon when they were younger and loved them, so when I saw Duck on a Bike I just had to get it for my little one.

Duck lived on a farm.  One day he decides that he would like to ride a bike.  A boy had left his bike unattended so duck got on and tried to ride. Duck rides by the cow, the sheep, the dog, the horse, the chicken, the goat, the pigs, and a mouse. Duck said hello all of the animals as he rode by, and they all responded in their animal sounds, like cluck, and bark, but they were all thinking something totally different. Some thought he was silly, some wished that they could do it. 

The end of the book is really cute and funny as several bikes become available.  I am sure you can imagine what happens next. 

This book is both written and illustrated by David Shannon, who also write the NO David! books. 

The story is very easy to read, and kids love it because all of the animals.  Of course you can have a lot of fun doing the animal sounds, and voices. 

The pictures are really well done, and have a great amount of detail for a childrens book, yet the animlas are still really cute.  The colors are bold and vibrant.

The ending of the book is absalutely adorable.  It is an ending that will make the kids giggle out loud. This would be a wonderful book to read out loud to a Kindergarten or preschool class.

My little guy loved the book, he loved all of the pictures of the animals, and he got a kick out of me making the animal sounds, and when I used different voices when I read aloud the animals thoughts.  Since there is not a ton of reading on the pages, and it goes fairly quickly his attention span stayed with me and the book, and it was a perfect story for him.  After I finished reading we went back through and I asked him to make all of the animal sounds. 

I definately recommend Duck on a Bike, by David Shannon
