A few years back, we lived on a narrow winding road that was a challenge to drive in the best of weather. Our mailbox was situated on the edge of the road just before a sharp bend. This made it convenient for our mail carrier to get to but I found myself having to either replace the post or entire mailbox several times because it was such an attractive target for cars traveling just a little too fast for our unlit road.
Duck Reflective Tape to the Rescue
One day down at the local hardware store I noticed a roll of Duck Reflective Tape in Red. I figured since I was replacing yet another mailbox and post, this might be a good addition to my purchase.
The tape comes in a small roll (1.5 in. x 30 in.) and is ideal for an application such as the above. A few short strips on the post and box made it highly visible at night as headlights found it.
Although nothing works as well as lights on a bicycle, it doesn't hurt to run a couple of strips of tape on pedals or the rider's safety helmet.
Interestingly, in the 18 months before we decided to move south, our mailbox was never knocked down again. Coincidence? I think not.
My Viewpoint
Duck Reflective Tape is an inexpensive way to make things just a little safer. It also comes in White and is ideal for permanent application. I highly recommend it.
