I have been to several mid-level all-inclusive resorts (Jamaica, Dominican Republic & Cancun) and have enjoyed them all to varying degrees. Some had better food (but most were buffets), some had better service while some had better liquor and beer choices. They never seemed to all come together until we found DREAMS in Puerto Vallarta. 5 restaurants of which 1 is a buffet (and was still great) and no reservations are required. No shorts in the indoor restaurants so bring a couple of pairs of slacks. Try the lasagna with crab meat in the Italian restaurant. If you like sushi, it is available everyday at the lunch buffet. Service is impeccable. I always felt compelled to leave a tip even though they are included in the price. Activities everyday with the entertainment team and I was told an awesome kids club. Drink service on the beach and at the pools. Room service 24/7. Kayaking, boogie boarding and snorkeling included. Parasailing and fishing options come right to the beach if you are interested (extra $$) and best of all, NO TIMESHARE pitches whatsoever. Also the drinks are top shelf. Captain Morgan, Absolut and many more top names along with about 8 beer choices. Bud, Bud Light, Corona, Modelo Light, XX, Pacifico (i forget the rest but most resorts only have 1 or 2 choices). YES, the mattress on the bed is a little stiff but that may well be my only negative comment. Cab fares are also pre-set at hotel at a very reasonable rate which is advisable to use over the bus (standing out by the road waiting for the bus can be dangerous because of drivers on the curvy road and possible accidents) since $4 gets you downtown anywhere ($1 per person on bus and they don't go exactly where you want to be). If you like good food and service, this place delivers. We will be back.
