Bottom-Line: Dragon Wars had zero entertainment value, well almost zero. The script sucks, the CGI and other special effects are marginal, and the acting is sub-par. Recommendation: Skip It!
Written and directed by Korean born Hyung-rae Shim Dragon Wars is in part based upon a 16th century Korean fable and there is where the story starts with magic and mayhem, lust and love, dragons and men. But eventually we end up in modern day Los Angeles, where the fable continues apace. The fable as told in the movie is convoluted and a bit messy, but involves a lizards/snakes turning into dragons. Of course there is a good lizard and a bad lizard and the power to turn from lizard to dragon resides in a young girl with a dragon tattoo on her left shoulder. And lastly, there is an old sage pledged to protect the girl from the evil lizard and his army of black warriors, and a young herald the sage enlists to the cause (funny how good is always out matched).
Did I mention the trailer looked promising?
My Viewpoint
Dragon Wars is an unqualified mess! I can't even begin to detail all of the plot holes and downright silliness this movie brings to the large screen. D-Wars wouldn't even make a good Saturday afternoon flick let alone one released on unsuspecting audiences across America. Were they kidding with this movie?
Dragon Wars had zero entertainment value, well almost zero. The script sucks, the CGI and other special effects are marginal, and the acting is sub-par. The only redeeming frames of this horrid little tale are at the end when the acting thankfully stops and the U.S. Army battles the lizard, his army, and hundreds of mini dragons in and around Los Angeles. Skip it!
