Horton Hears a Who was one of my favorite Dr. Seuss stories growing up, so I was astonished once I was watching the film adaptation in the theatre how little I remembered of the story. Anyone who is a Dr. Suess fan knows the old tale of "Horton Hears A Who."  I went to see this with my parents and we all loved it.  I'm not sure the kids got the jokes and I didn't hear a whole lot of laughing. — —   Jim Carrey does the voice of Horton, an elephant who lives in the Jungle of Nool.  One day he is swimming and he thinks he hears something when a speck blows by.  Being an elephant who has exceptional hearing (as elephants do) he is the only one who can hear this speck.  It turns out that in this speck is a tiny community called… read full review »

My 3-year-old daughter, Leila and I had a "date" on Friday night.  This is the first time I have ever taken Leila to see a movie, so we went to see Horton Hears A Who. This is an excellent CGI adaptation of one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books!  I had the book and it is now Leila's. I didn't remember the story, but watching the movie, it seemed very much a part of Dr. Seuss's collection.  Our whole family went, my 17 year old daughter, my 13 year old son, my husband and myself.  We laughed and enjoyed it just because it was.  The message it offered was great for all ages, the humor was great too.  Once again, Carol Burnett made you dislike her character thoroughly just as she did as Miss Hannigan in Annie, and Jim Carey and Steve Carrell did a wonderful job of voicing Horton and the Mayor of Whoville. —  I enjoy a lot of different movies,… read full review »

Of course, most of read Horton as a child growing up.  This movie gives an added spin on the characters by giving the citizens of Whoville personalities characteristic of today's 21st century child.  The mayor had quite a few daughters, and they were were adorable pictured as girls who enjoyed similar activities as my grandchildren do today.  But, I loved the character of the son who felt left out or misunderstood and who would isolate to develop and create "his music".  That was so enlightening for today.  Dr. Seuss' movie is current and a movie the family can enjoy… read full review »

My kids and I were tired of dodging rain drops during spring break and since there weren't any other age appropriate movies for my kids and I to go see, we ended up with 'Horton Hears a Who.' My 4 & 7 year old boys & I LOVED this movie! We laughed and giggled at all of the different characters and the funny things they would say and do. There were even some important life lessons in the movie that both of my kids picked up on without me even having to explain them! Great movie to see for adults and kids.  I saw Jim Carrey, Steve Carrel(sp?) and Carol Burnett on 'Oprah'.  They were funny, so we decided to see the movie.  Sometimes the kids' movies have 'hidden' messages.  Not so with this one.  Just a good animation from Dr. Suess' book.  My husband and I saw it with our 17 year old daughter (which automatically means she can be critical!).  We all enjoy it.  It is a great movie for all… read full review »

I thought this movie was adorable. In the context of a children's book turned into movie I thought it was well done and maintained the character of the original book. This is a movie that I would take a child to see, although a young adult or teen may not enjoy it as much. Dr. Suess' Horton Hears a Who is a favorite of my kids and me.  At their insistance, we went to see this movie at the theater.  We rarely go to the movies preferring to wait for them to come to DVD, but I agreed to splurge for this outing.   Not being a Jim Carrey fan at all, I was dreading seeing this beloved story butchered and cheapened by Jim Carrey's obnoxious antics (His work on The Grinch Who Stole Christmas still makes me grimace.).  However, I have to admit this film is not  that bad.  The animation is true to Dr. Suess and quite… read full review »
