My preferred method of exercise is walking. I enjoy the time to myself and the benefits that I get from a brisk walk. It gives me more energy and clears my head. When I first started walking for exercise, I ventured out in whatever I was wearing and the result was sore feet, clothes that trapped moisture and not much upper body exercise. I realized that the first thing that I needed to purchase was a decent pair of walking shoes. My budget was tight but I wasn't willing to sacrifice comfort. I lucked out when I found Dr. Scholl's - Women's Air-Pillo Gel Attribute Sneakers at Wal-Mart for only around $25. These sneakers have a shock reduction system with an Energy Disc that really helps give me comfort. They are not the trendiest pair of sneakers but they are leather and do the job that I bought them for.
After awhile of continuing this routine, I decided that I had to get the right apparel because regular sweat pants just weren't cutting it. They were uncomfortable, too warm and just didn't allow my lower half to breathe. I had a gift certificate for Amazon.com and decided to browse through some reviews of women's gym pants and found the adidas Women's Gym Capri to be favorable. The price tag of forty-eight dollars didn't make me too happy but I figured that with the gift certificate, it wouldn't be too bad. I expected quality because of the price and the brand name of adidas being attached to them. I'm happy to say that quality is exactly what I got. These Capri's are made from 90% Polyester and 10% Spandex Jersey. They are so light and airy because they contain "ClimaLite" fabrics that when worn, conduct sweat away from the body to keep you cool and dry in warm conditions. I'm not quite sure how these pants do what they do but they are the most comfortable pants I have worn while walking. I feel so much cooler and that gives me the energy to push it just a little further than I was able to before. I've washed these Capri's several times and they look as good as new.
Now that I had the right sneakers and gym pants, I wanted to push the envelope a little further and get something more out of my walking routine. I was a member of Jenny Craig Weight Loss Center and I decided to purchase a pair of Jenny Craig 2 lb. Hand Weights. They were a bit pricey at around $22 but after trying them on, I knew I had to have them. They go on like a bowling wristband and attach with Velcro so they can be easily adjusted to fit just right. They have a durable neoprene lining that makes them very comfortable. You would think that two pounds wasn't much weight but you can really feel it when you swing your arms up and down. After using them for only about a week, I could see the difference in my arms and even my back. I use them at home too to do different upper body exercises like butterflies. The only drawback to these hand weights are that it is difficult to hold anything while wearing them so don't expect to carry a water bottle or cell phone.
Well, there you have it! Spring has sprung and now is a great time to get yourself started on a walking routine. It's not only good for losing or maintaining your weight, it's good for your heart and mind too! Having the right walking shoes and apparel are essential to your comfort and success so order yourself some new gym shoes and Capri pants, grab some hand weights and get outside!
