I first saw Dr. Nelson because my little princess Chloe, a 9 month old mini dobe, jack russel mix was showing signs of pregnancy. Fist off she was to young to be having children, she might die during pregnancy, and secondly the only daddy could have been her brother. Spaying a dog while she is already pregnant is a very risky procedure that no doctor wanted to take on. The clock was ticking and finally I was highly recommended to Dr. Nelson because he specializes in high risk procedures.

I expected the procedure would be pricey but Chloe was too young to be a mama and I wasn't ready to lose her or take on a litter of inbred dogs. He only charged me around $175 I believe for the procedure which anywhere else would have been upwards of $500.

A year later my indoor/outdoor handsome cat Moe was found by a neighbor of mine looking like he'd been hit by a car. He looked terrible, and had no strength what so ever. It was around 9 at night so I wasn't sure if Bayview Animal Clinic would be open, but someone answered the phone! omg, someone answered the phone!!! "Bring him in immediately the nurse said". When I arrived the nurse was waiting outside for me and Dr Nelson was inside waiting!!

Dr Nelson took x-rays, determined nothing was broken and began feeling Moe. Immediately he looked up at the Nurse and said "He's septic". Turned out Moe had kidney stones and one had gotten stuck. I think Moe was less than 6 hours from death. His kidneys had shut down completely and his blood was incredibly toxic pumping through his body. Dr Nelson immediately unblocked the obstruction, hooked moe up to an IV, and after he did all he could, he gave me the honest truth. Moe had a 50-50 shot at making it. There was a 50% chance he would not make it through the night. My friend had a concern that moe would be left over night unattended because Bayview Animal Clinic is not a 24hr Emergency Vet. Dr. Nelson reassured us that if he was going to pass that night, there was nothing someone watching over him could do. With sadness but confidence said "I trust you".

Going to Dr. Nelson turned out to be the right decision. First think in the morning I called and was informed that Moe had made it. He still wasn't in the clear, but he had made it. Dr Nelson didn't perform any unnecessary tests. He knew what the results of the tests would be and waited for Moe to improve before testing to see if the kidneys were filtering and the blood was clean etc. He got the results and decided Moe needed to stay until his kidneys were 100%. Then on day 3 he tested, Moe's blood was back to normal and he came home. Moe is now on a special diet, and I monitor him very carefully. Had I taken Moe to a 24 hour emergency vet the bill would have been around 2,500-3,000. Certainly not affordable for me. Dr. Nelson worked with my financial situation by not performing extra or possibly unnecessary tests, and whittling the bill down a little bit. The total for Dr. Nelson saving Moe's life was only $800. I'm definitely going to consider getting some pet insurance since it's possible this could happen again. But moe is awesome now! He's gained back his weight, maybe a little too much!

I was a young student working my way through school so I was not rich by any means and was very fortunate to find Dr. Nelson who turned out to be the most reasonably, and fairly priced 5 star quality doctor in town. I would pay double to have my animals in the safety of his office, but fortunately I don't have to. Dr. Nelson is the very best and I would not go to anyone else.

Oh, and he's also super easy to talk to. I find a lot of vets know how to deal with animals, but not so much with their owners. Dr. Nelson is good with both the pet and their owner.

Dr. Nelson is one of the most caring and compassionate vets I haved ever encountered. My sister, Julie (who has 3 dogs) recommended Dr. Nelson when I adopted a rescue dog for our mom, who had a stroke and is bed bound. Our little Chihuahua had had previous knee problems and Dr. Nelson performed 3 surgeries on our dog and he is now running around a very happy puppy. I have recommended Dr. Nelson's practice to friends and they are so happy with Dr. Nelson, Dr. Brunz and the entire staff!
