Dr. Pepper has a unique taste as far as soda goes and I enjoy an Ice Cold Dr. Pepper often. With a taste similar to root beer it is very easy on the taste buds. Although too much of it does give me heartburn for some reason.

My Favorite uses of Dr. Pepper

When I am not feeling well and coming down with a cold I reach for a Dr. Pepper. No not because it starts with Dr. either, but rather for the unique taste it has when you heat it up and add a touch of rum to it. Thats right a good old fashioned Hot Toddy! I have tried making them with coffee and tea as well, but Dr. Pepper just has a taste that goes well with rum and served hot.

It relaxes me and helps the body to start sweating and puts you on the way to feeling better. They say that Hot Toddy's originated in the Scottish culture but that has been debated for years. I don't care who started it, what I do care about is it makes me feel a bit better when I have one.

Another favorite (started by my little brother) is to make an Ice Cream Float with Dr.Pepper and vanilla ice cream. I like them better than root beer floats as they just don't seem so acidic too me. Dr. Pepper usually joins me for a leisurely float around the pool on a hot summers day as well. He never learned to swim but he does stay in my cup holder when I tell him too!

Bottom Line

Dr. Pepper has been around for many years and although not for those watching calories or sugar it is a wonderful change of pace to plain colas. It makes a fantastic Hot Toddy and a darn good ice cream float. It is good straight up and on the rocks as well as the flavor holds up to ice very well. It goes great with Bacardi 151 Rum in a Hot Toddy Too!!
