I had previously written a review of the playtex ventaire bottles that bent towards unfavorable as i had switched to the drbrowns and found them to be more effective for my baby at reducing gas. This was mostly due to the stage 1 nipple that my baby could not get enough formula out. Ok so on to the DrBrown bottles...They work for my baby!
What I like about them is I notice a real difference in my babe's behavior with these. She is happier, less gassy and spits up less. I should mention my little one has reflux.
What i do NOT like is the price, the cleaning ritual with the minuscule brush, all the parts, and putting it all together, oh and you really can't mix formula in the bottle, you need to do it in a separate container.
These bottles have lots of good reviews here, so they really must do the trick for a good number of babies, but I wanted to add my 2 cents even though there are plenty of reviews already. What I don't like about these is more than what I do like, but the fact that they work for my babe and she feels better is the most important.
I also want to share an experience I had that made me rethink my opinion of the ventaires. Recently my babe just stopped taking the bottle for no reason at about 9 weeks. Nothing had changed, just her clear disdain for the bottle! After 2 days of her grudgingly drinking 2 oz then crying then sleeping then waking to cry some more, i knew something had to change. I dug out the ventaires and put an old nipple from my previous child (johnsons health flow stage 1)on that bottle and my girl drank it all. For two more days I stuck with the ventaire with the Johnsons nipple and she did alright, but she was really spitting up a lot and crying after eating.
After reading here, I thought I should try the next stage nipple and the ventaire with the stage 2 was pretty good. I wanted to stay with them because they are easier to hold and clean and you can make formula in them. I like them better than the DRbrown now , however my babe does not. Although she drank ok, afterwords there was way more spit-up and fussing.
So I went back to the Drbrown, but with the stage 2 nipple and the spit-up is more manageable and babe is less fussy after eating. SO I will go back to getting dishpan hands and the added pain of premixing and pouring and putting it all together for her.
If your baby does not suffer from reflux, I would say try ventaire, they are more parent friendly! But my baby needs to be on DrBrown bottles. Every baby will respond differently and sometimes you have to go through so many bottle/nipple combinations before you get it right. It can be really frustrating when you just want your little-one to feel good and be happy. And sometimes things stop working and you have to start over again. Don't be discouraged, you'll get it!
