Since my skin is pretty pastey, I chose the shade meant for those with fair skin. Since self-tanners haven't worked very well on me in the past, I was pretty cautious with this stuff, and started out by putting it on after I'd covered myself in my usual daily lotion. Doing this seemed to build a very, very, very slight change in color, so I decided to try it without the lotion, the way it was meant to be used. Unfortunately, my sking couldn't handle it, and I had some orange streaks by the next day. I still use this stuff every now and then over my regular lotion because it's definitely the best I've found so far - unfortunately, it's still not doing exactly what it's supposed to do. On the plus side, it's not sticky and it smells pretty good - so if you have skin that's anything by pastey white, I'd say give it a try, because it might just work for you. Overall, I'd say it's decent, but not something I'd rely on if I wanted more than an extremely subtle (as in, I'm the only one that's going to notice) change in color.
