Don't Forget the Lyrics —

I have read some reviews that speak of how bad people on this show sing, but we can't all be musically gifted. Wayne Brady does a good job at hosting and rarely have I seen him make a face when these people sing on the show. He always seems encouraging and sincere when he talks to them as they try to win the elusive $1,000,000 top price.

The Show

A contestant must choose a song from the 2 songs in each of 9 different categories and sing the missing lyrics. Sometimes it is 3 missing words and sometimes a lot more, I have seen it go up to 12 missing words. Once they sing the song and get to the missing lyrics they are given the choice of locking in the lyrics they sang or using a help to get the missing words. Each time they are correct they move up the ladder toward the million dollar prize.

They are allowed 3 helps if they need them to get the correct lyrics to each song. You have a backup singer, 2 words and 3 lines as your help options. Each contestant has 2 friends they bring along as backup singers. Once they reach the $25,000 threshold they will not leave the show with any less than that. After they are successful in the 9 categories they are then given the opportunity to go for the million dollar song. Once there though they cannot use any helps at all, they must do it all on their own.

So far to date nobody has won the Grand prize, but a few have come pretty close. They have the option to take the money and run at any time during the game. Some try and go too far and are knocked back to $25,000 but hey they had nothing when they got there so thats a pretty good prize for less than an hours worth of work.

I will admit some of them need to buy singing lessons, but some are quite good and the songs sound as they are supposed too sound. Each has their own personality and it shines through as they perform. Wayne Brady is a comical host that both helps and playfully taunts each and every one as they sing the songs on the show.

It is a nice trip down memory lane and my wife and I will sit here and sing along with the show. I think anyone with enough guts to get on stage in front of a television audience should be applauded. It is one thing to go to a bar and get drunk to sing, but these people have guts.

Bottom Line

Although some singers will test your eardrums, others will have you mesmerized in how well they can sing. It is an enjoyable 30 minutes for me to sing along with some of the greatest songs ever written. Sometimes I find myself rooting for the contestant as they try and win $1,000,000, wishing it was me up there. But not me I sing in my truck and the shower but you won't catch me in front of a national television audience doing it!
