I won't forget the lyrics, just the days & times the show is on

2 star rating

fun loving, a reality TV junkie, a fan of music/dance shows, bored to tears with this show
Pros

it's only a half an hour long, Wayne Brady is a decent host, music is mainstream, live band, singers

Cons
boring, contestants sing way too long, not funny, half hour feels like 4 days, doesn't move along fast enough

Don't Forget the Lyrics —

Quick View: One of two of almost exact game shows that premiered this week where contestants have to remember the lyrics of songs, this one is just awful. It's not funny and it drones on way too long. If I HAD to pick one of the two shows, I would pick Singing Bee with Joey Fatone to watch. If I HAD to pick one.

About Don't Forget the Lyrics

Having just watched the premier of Singing Bee last night and groaned, I can't believe how much worse Don't Forget the Lyrics is. The premise of this show is to have the worst possible singers on earth sing karaoke style to certain songs and, eventually, the music stops and they have to finish the next four words. Wayne Brady is the host and there is a live band and real singers but that doesn't stop this show from being dull as dishwater. They focus on one contestant and have him or her sing so much of a song that plugging your ears is almost a necessity. Eventually the music stops and they have to sing the next four words. If they are unsure of the words, they can lock in their answers or use some sort of helpers (Like on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.). If they are right, they can walk away with the money they accrued or keep going for the ultimate prize of one million dollars.

Here's the problem. People with terrible voices can be funny. But when they are on the whole show and sing for as long as the one contestant did (I watched the premier and there was just one contestant on throughout), it isn't funny. It's annoying. It'd maddening. It's boring. Not to compare shows but at least Singing Bee has several contestants on and moves fast so you don't get bored. This show drags and simply isn't funny or entertaining. The songs are common ones most of us know in three genres which the contestants can pick from. But man, they butcher those songs and sing many, many lines before they FINALLY have to sing just four more words.

This show is on FOX on BOTH Wednesday and Thursday nights for a half an hour at a time. Let me tell you, the show was the longest half hour of my life. I will probably tune in just to see if the terribly dressed, vocally challenged contestant wins and then won't tune in again. I have better things to do like wash my car in the rain, change my new guitar strings, mow the yard just the same as I did yesterday...

Finish THOSE lyrics. Ha!

My Viewpoint

This is worse than Wayne Brady's Celebrity Duets and worse than Joey Fatone's Singing Bee. If it survives, it won't be because I was tuning in. Yuck. 2 stars.

wash your car, guitar string changing, lawn mowing?? If the show is anything like your self-entertaining, senseless ramble than you are a genius to have us readers figure it out through a series of moronic sentiments. Ps. go to www.interstingMetaphors.com next time

Yep, I get my fix of bad singing on the first episodes of American Idol....at least THAT is entertaining! Nice review!

I managed to watch about 5 minutes. If I want to hear bad singing, I will take a shower.

I had a feeling that this one was gonna be a flop. I meant to catch it, but never did...thanks for the warning!

Thanks for the warning! I forgot to check it out so I guess I didn't miss out. I caught a few seconds of the singing bee, and while I thought it was OK, it was still pretty lame. Good review.
