Donald McCaig - Rhett Butler's People Reviews

I haven’t read Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With the Wind, but I have seen the movie (I know, *scoff*). I acknowledge that there are probably significant differences between the book and movie but in a way it worked in my favor. It allowed there to be a number of surprises in Rhett Butler’s People.

Somewhat to my surprise, I really enjoyed Rhett Butler’s People! It was cool to gain insights as to Rhett’s youth. At certain points, familiar events would pop up that would make me smile. For example, Rhett is waiting on a train and has a conversation with a friend:

I love Gone With the Wind and was really excited when I heard this book was going to be published. The premise of this book is to give the reader a more detailed look at Rhett Butler's life and relationships. I wanted to know more about Rhett Butler because not much is told about him in the book. This paints a more human picture of him. It shows that he was more than a blockade runner or an unacceptable person. I got this by accident because I forgot to decline my monthly book club offers.  Well I had it for months and went through all my other books when I decided I may as well try to read it since I didn't have anything else in yet.

I never read Gone With The Wind but now I can't wait to find my copy to read the other side of the story.  This story was very touching and sad and happy all at the same time.  You will find yourself lost in the goings on of Rhett.  I was rivited by his tale.
