When, about seven months ago, we decided we were ready for a second baby, it was our first experience "trying to conceive." I went on several pregnancy test websites (most notably "peeonastick.com") to figure out what exactly you were getting in a pregnancy test, what made some nearly $20 and others around $5? Was there any functional or quality difference between name and store brand? Turns out, there are variations among brands, but price doesn't reflect quality at all. In fact, for those who are struggling with infertility, you can buy packs of just the paper strips that change color when applied to the urine of a pregnant woman, for around $0.50 per or less. But I wasn't struggling with infertility, and I didn't feel the need to buy $50 worth of pregnancy tests at a time and off the internet. I wanted to check whether I was pregnant now, and I didn't want to spend $20 if it was a false alarm. We went to Dollar Tree. The Dollar Tree version available that day (there are two, both are essentially the same inside, but different urine application methods) was the cup version. It came back positive, despite being only two days post estimated ovulation. A week later, we double-checked with a second test from Dollar Tree, and we're due shortly. We could have spent $40 or more, much more if we went for early detection or digital bells and whistles, but it would have told us exactly the same thing as the $2 we spent on two dollar store tests.
