I purchased a vacation plan that included a car rental with Dollar at LAX. However, when I went to get the car, there was a very large, long line and only four representatives working. After waiting for an extended period of time, I was called up to get my car, but soon found to my dismay that they required extra fees in form of $22 a day for insurance and a $400 deposit!
First, I wasn't aware that I'd be required to get insurance, especially such overpriced insurance. I have had to get insurance with other companies before, but it's generally less than $10 a day. Second, I was never told of the excessively high deposit. Honestly, I have NEVER had to give that large of a deposit for a car rental before, the most I have ever had to give is $200. They actually refused to give the car to me, even though it was PRE-PAID for through my vacation plan, because I did not have $400 free for them to freeze up on my credit card. Also, the representative I worked with was EXTREMELY unsympathetic to my plight as I explained it to him, and he was very, very rude. I was stuck in a city without a rental car (which I'd already paid for), and he simply dismissed me by throwing my paperwork back up on the counter and yelling "next!" to the subsequent customer.
I ended up going to Alamo instead, which was just a walk down the road. They required no deposit at all, just payment for the rental car. They were very quick and efficient too.
I will never forget this experience and I will never rent with Dollar again. EVER. It was a horrible beginning for what was supposed to be a nice vacation.
