    Saving a dog's life is the greatest, seeing the look in their eyes, The love you can share with them, Volunteering there is very rewarding, purebred rescues, Helping a dog that has no where to go

This is the best way to go. Don't buy a puppy from a pet store and support puppymills. There are many purebred rescues. Try:  http://www.petfinder.com 

Yes, rescues might be picky. They don't want dogs going to Mike Vick, Ellen deGeneres or getting dumped. 4-6 Million dogs and more cats are euthanized in the US every year. Save a life. Many of these animals are purebreds and have lost their homes through no fault of their own......death, divorce, etc. They love people and they have been housetrained(big plus!) Decent rescues spay and neuter their animals and fully vet. Quite a bargain! Call a vet and ask what they would charge to do the same thing.
