rescueing a pet is the best thing you can do, there are lots of pets that need good homes.  We thought we wanted a purebreed dog from a breeder, and when we went up to the rescue shelter, seeing all those cute puppies and dogs waiting for someone to pick them.  If i had my choice i would have brought all of them home with me, but my husband and I picked out a 3 month old puppy, black lab/border collie mix and brought her home, we named her Lara and she is 5 years old now and we can't imagine not having her around.  She is a true companion and spolled rotten.  Likes walks and riding in the car.  You should always try the shelter when looking for a pet, because those pets need our help to survive.
