Rescuing a dog can be one of the greatest things you ever do. You just can't imagine how much fun and love a good dog can bring into your life. I have rescued a couple dogs in my life and have never been sorry.
The first dog was a registered black lab puppy that I got from the pound in Gillette, Wyoming.. We had just moved out in the country on a little forty acre mini-ranch and my husband was working at the coal mines. He had rotating shifts and was gone twelve to fourteen hours a day. I wanted a companion and someone to warn me when strangers were approaching. Lacey was a very good companion and when somebody was coming she would flat let me know. She was very protective and we had a lot of fun together going on walks and playing Frisbee. One day I was working out in our big garden and she started barking and raising cane and she had put herself between me and a big rattlesnake that was hiding in the corn. Fortunately neither one of us got bit but I easily could have. She was my husband's dog when he was home but when he was gone I served as a good subsitute and I learned to love that dog. A young newly wed couple had gotten her and were planning to have their baby and Lacey grow up together but Lacey was jealous of the baby so she had to go. We were fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time.
When we first moved to Denver we lived in a rented townhouse and they didn't allow dogs so Lacey went to live with a friend of my oldest daughters who had two small kids and those kids are just as crazy about Lacey as we were.
Now that we have our own place again we got a registered Golden Retriever puppy from the Denver Dumb Friends League and we are again enjoying the company of a wonderful dog. Sasha ia a real love and we have had a good time training her and taking walks with her in a big park that is about three blocks from our home. She has learned very well and very quickly. She is very well behaved and we get compliments all the time aboout what a beautiful dog she is.
If you want a great pet whethe it be a dog or something else, there are many out there that need homes. Unless you are planning on breeding and raising dogs, I just can't see any sense in paying $1000 for a dog when there are so many available for adaption..
