Our family was so excited about giving a pet a home who needed one, so we applied to 2 rescues. First, our initial questions about rescue would not even be answered until we filled out an application form. So we did. One rescue's form was over 8 pages of small print. Then we waited for weeks before we heard anything at all. Then we had a lengthy phone conversation, which we were told was supposed to be followed up on with an appointment to come see our home to make sure that the dog would be safe. No problem, except it had been well over a month with no follow-up. The second agency experience was a little better, but because of our experience with the first rescue, we gave up and started checking Craigs List. We found a sweet girl who needed a home and it was much less stressful and time consuming for us. I think that rescue is an excellent concept. I'm certain that rescues can use more help, but less stringent procedures would keep people interested. After sharing our experience with others, we found there were many others who have had similar experiences and so have found other avenues to adopt their pets.
