I have two Samoyeds which I adopted through two different rescues. I adopted my first Samoyed through the Georgia Samoyed Rescue/Humane Society. She was taken away from her owners because she was so mistreated and the humane society took her in. They held onto her for seven months while they nursed her back to health. I shudder to think what would have happened to her if the humane society hadn't taken her away. She still had a lot of health problems, most of which have gone away.
My second Samoyed I adopted through the Northern Illinois Samoyed Assistaance. He was a puppy mill rescue and he was deeply abused. He was in the rescue for three years looking for a family. If if wasn't for the rescue, who knows what would have happened to him. He was in really bad psychological and physical shape when the rescue took him in. He was nursed back to physical health, but the emotional issues are still being worked on.
The dog rescues are so rewarding, I have helped out with some events, and gone to some picnics, and to see the dogs that were rescued and saved brings tears to my eyes. Their eyes show so much. There are so many dogs which are not taken care of, abused, and forgotten and the rescues pick them up and take them in. I only wish people would see what we see at the rescues and hopefully one day we can stop all the abuse and neglect.
