I adopted two Cocker Spaniels from a no-kill shelter and they are wonderful. Abby is blind and 10 years old at adoption, 11 now, this is why no one else would adopt her. Her son, Zorro, was 8 and spunky. I couldn't see adopting one without the other, besides, who am I to separate a Mother from her Son :-) Zorro threw me a learning and patience curve when I found out he chews up pretty much anything in sight. Diligent training and a little vinegar (no it doesn't hurt him, it just tastes bad) rubbed on the trash can made him a little angel within 6 months. They are both very well adjusted (as well as me) and are totally a part of my family. The thing is to remember adoption is without judgment and it is forever. I could not see adopting Zorro then taking him back to the shelter because he didn't fit in perfect on the first day. It was my job to adjust and find ways to train him into being the wonderful pet he is today.
