Nadia arrived from the Amanda Foundation, a dog and cat rescue. She is extremely intelligent, a great surrogate mom and companion.

Rescue orgaizations are important and I support their work. But each has its own adoption rules and as they are volunteer run, sometimes the personalities behind them make the rules difficult to adhere to.

When looking for a pet companion, check with your local animal shelter as well. Many rescue organizations get their animals from shelters. Very few animal shelters are of the no-kill variety, so adopting from a shelter will undoubtly save that animal's life. Animal shelters also have few rules regarding adoption (such as open space and indoor/outdoor requirements). Adopting a neighborhood stray is another option. Two of my dogs were found as strays.

Adopting a pet, no matter where you found it, is a noble gesture.

All of my childhood pets were strays and all very loving. I got my Barkley at the Humane Society and he is the best dog (see my review on the American Staffordshire Terrier). He's definitely a cutie and so are your guys!
