Komondorok (plural of Komondor) are a interesting dog. They were bred in Hungary to be the sole guardians of flocks of sheep. They have a white, corded (dreadlocks) coat, so as to blend in with their sheep. They were bred to think independantly. They are actually still being used today as cheap methods of guarding herds in America.

As house pets, they can be tricky. We have one and it hasn't been easy. They are extremely stubborn. Seriously one of the most stubborn breeds. Socialization is essential at an early age or they will forever be suspicious of everyone and everything. Our dog still barks angrily at new boxes sitting on the floor, if she finds them suspicious! As puppies they are extremely energetic and friendly. As they grow up they get lazy and more suspicious and alert. They are good guard dogs.
