This has been my first experience with a large breed and let me tell you, its been an experience.  This is a herding breed and they know it. They herd my nephew around the backyard, they attempt to herd us around the house. I don't have kids but what I saw of them and my nephew, they were really good around him. The first time they were around a child, they played gentle with him and didn't jump or rough house. They are prone to easy weight gain, so they must be kept active with lots of different activities because they get bored. Backyard fetch, lots of walks, doggy park play. They are a very independent breed. If you don't direct them, they will direct themselves and the outcome could be scary. They are called "counter cruisers" for a reason and are very smart. We have one that has taught himself to open every door and cabinet in the house. Anywhere he goes he picks up where the cookies are kept the first time he learns and will remember it and help himself if he can reach. This breed needs consistant training and lots of it. They don't shed, but the grooming can be horrendous. We live in Florida, so their hair is kept short instead of the long hair associated with the breed. If you are going to grow the hair out, you must brush daily. They are high maintenence in the attention/training department but it will payoff. They are some of the sweetest, goofiest, silliest dogs I have ever come across and are so much fun. Be warned, they are attention getters. When I walk mine anywhere, they get lots of attention from others. They are not considered "protective" dogs normally, but the male I have is very protective of his "Mommy" when my husband is not around.

The picture of your pup is so adorable. It sounds like agility courses would be perfect for this breed. Great review.
