Two of our three dogs are Jack Russel Mix dogs. I am just in love with the breed. One dog is a JR/Beagle mix (JackAbee) and the other is what we think a JR/Corgi mix, not sure with her but we know she is Jack. All our dogs are rescues. One of the Jacks, Gracie, was in a shelter with her siblings and the picture on petfinder was of her and her sister cuddled in the corner of the kennel all sad. She grabbed our hearts right away and even though she was about 10 hours away from us and took two rescue groups to get her to us, she is definitely where she is suppose to be. I had Gracie at a dog competition on Mothers Day weekend and there was a rescue there with some dogs. Lo and behold they had a JR in a little cage and again, we looked each other in the eyes and that was that. She now lives with us in her forever home. They both have that JR attitude and they think they are as big as Great Danes. They are not mean at all but they won't put up with any crap either. They are vocal so will voice their opinion. Gracie is the hyper one. In one breath I say that and in another I can say she is a cuddler also. When she decides to relax she usually HAS to be by me or touching me. At night she lays right between me and my husband and has to be all curled up against me. I have teased with my hubby that if she could, she would crawl in my skin! haa haa! She is a barker. Don't know if that is a JR thing or a Beagle thing or a bit of both! She has been through obedience and agility. She is an excellent agility dog and since she is basically a beginner, I can't wait to compete with her. She seems to be very happy when she is 'working' or just keeping busy with something or learning. She is very loyal to us. She has a love/hate relationship with our cat. When the cat isn't interfering with HER world, she is fine. BUT if she is sitting with me or if I have treats out or something she will nip at the cat. She is about 9 months so is my baby of my animals and she loves her mommy! Our other JR is Tessie. Tess seems to be pretty different. When I found her, we already had two dogs in a townhouse. We were worried about having THREE dogs. Well, she walked into our home and that was that. She had obviously been worked with somewhere so she KNEW how to tell us she had to go poopy/potty. She knew how to put her harness on. She just "FIT" in. She has NEVER been a problem with anything and we just can't imagine life without her if we had decided three would have been too much. Tessie does some of the JR stuff but she just seems a bit different than Gracie. Tessie didn't bark alot but I think since being around Gracie, she does more now. Tessie and Gracie are the best of sisters. They play and growl and roll and run after each other most of the day. We are frequent visitors to our local dog park and we can't even say the words 'dog park' in our home because the three of them will go nuts! Tessie is a huge cuddler and she is a sleeper. She isn't hyper at all. She is a Daddy girl. It is the cutest thing. She sleeps with us also but she starts out by Gracie between us and ends up at the food of our bed on her back. She has these little stubby legs that we think she gets from the Corgi breed along with the big ole ears. When she sleeps on her back, her little legs stick up. We lovingly knicknamed her 'Stubby'. Hee hee! She is gentle like when we give her a food treat. As where Gracie grabs it like a scavanger. Tessie and our other dog get along but they are not as close as the two Jacks are. They are both super smart. Both loyal. Both like to work, learn. I was planning on getting Tessie into obedience and agility but with the economy stuff these days we just can't afford putting another dog through it. We are at a stand still with Gracie now also. Hopefully we can get back into it. The competition that Gracie and I were at where we found Tessie, Gracie did her first Puppy Lure Course race and she surprised me with a third place ribbon! I was hooked! We will be going back to that competition again in September. At that time the rescue that we got Tessie from will be having some fun things going on including a parade of sorts and they want Tessie to be a part of it. Of course we will! I'm so thankful that God chose US to be the parents of these two little dogs. Like I said, I am now totally hooked on the Jack Russell Terrier breed. I would strongly recommend them.
