Deftly Uses the Rear Window premise
Who didn't love Hitchcock's Rear Window, with Jimmy Stewart trapped at home, thinking he was witnessing a terrible crime out his window? These stressful circumstances are the basis for Disturbia, with troubled teen Shia LeBouf under house arrest, resigned to watching his neighborhood's goings-on from inside.

Creepy Fun
What unfolds is suspenseful and mostly believable - the director strikes the right balance between big scares and the relief of laughter. David Morse is totally convincing as the neighbor you could be nervous around. I bought his character hook, line & sinker. All in all, a fine little thriller considering its youthful cast. Only a few of the "teen scenes" are tedious, but the film moves along.

Project Greenlight fans take note
Shia LeBouf starred in an earlier season of Matt Damon's and Ben Affleck's now-defunct HBO reality show. LeBouf was good then, and he's better now. I enjoyed watching his Disturbia character get into jams both typical and atypical of "the teen next door."

The Bottom Line: Libby Likes It!
